Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
My business started in 1998.
What is your primary product or service?
I offer seminars and consulting on more effective charts and graphs. I often review documents and presentations for clients, suggesting changes or alternative displays as appropriate.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I always had an interest in displaying data. When I left Bell Laboratories I decided to make the ideas in the books by William S. Cleveland accessible to a less technical audience. I have a Ph.D. in statistics.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Most people who teach charts and graphs teach how to use software. I teach principles of effective graphs independent of the software used. I customize my seminars for clients using their own examples; the few others I know of who teach principles of effective graphs do not. customize
